Half the price in two months
On July 14, a PSA 10 Ahri - Nine-Tailed Fox (Metal) (Prize Wall) card sold for $30,000. Last Saturday, the same card in the same grade sold for $15,100. That is half.
The drop came in steps. On August 15 it was $24,000. Then $20,000, $17,000, $16,500, $16,000, $15,600 and now $15,100. That is $8,900 gone in 22 days.
Why I call it a buy
The $15,100 sale was an auction. It ended with 52 bids. An auction price is just the top bid in a seven-day window.
A Buy It Now price is what a seller is willing to wait for. Right now, Buy It Now for this card is about $19,400. So the $15,100 is not what the card is worth. It is what one seller took to be done in a week.
My call: if you want high-end Riftbound, bid at auction. Do not pay Buy It Now while auctions close about $4,300 lower.
Why prices are falling
I see two reasons. First, the whole card market is down. I see it in One Piece and Lorcana too.
Second, you can only get metal Prize Wall cards at Regional Qualifiers. Each event adds more cards. Barcelona was August 23. Three days later, the Ahri metal went from $17,700 to $16,500. Singapore was September 5. The next day it sold for $15,100.
Los Angeles is September 25. That could mean more supply and one more step down. So bid, do not chase, and leave room for LA. When they stop giving out these set one cards, I expect prices to bounce back.
Jinx and Kai'Sa metals
Three Jinx - Loose Cannon (Metal) (Prize Wall) PSA 10s sold last week for $9,200, $8,600 and $8,600. Buy It Now was about $9,100. This card peaked at $19,500 on July 19.
A Kai'Sa - Daughter of the Void (Metal) (Prize Wall) PSA 10 sold at auction for $8,851 with 52 bids. At its high, this card sold for $15,000.
Ahri Inquisitive is holding
The Ahri - Inquisitive (Signature) sold four times this week, between $8,000 and $8,600. Its peak was about $12,000. That is about a 25% drop. The metal cards dropped close to 50%.
One BGS Black Label 10 sold at auction for $14,900 on August 16. Others sold for about $39,000 and $33,000. There are only 28 Black Label 10s. If you own one, I would hold it.
This week I counted 202 graded sales across 79 cards. 182 were PSA, 19 were BGS and one was TAG. The middle sale was $1,350.
